The Golden Chariot was one such product that has been very well received. He also emphasized that there was a need for a South Indian Regional Tourism Co-operation body which could bring together and bridge the four southern states.
It was a matter of great joy for all participants when he assured that KTF as an industry body will be consulted prior to finalization of the new State Tourism Policy before it is framed. |

A Snapshot of KTF SPEAK: March 2009 |
|
The first of the monthly events of the year 2009, KTF-SPEAK was held successfully at The Lalit Ashok hotel in Bangalore on 4th March. |
There was an overwhelming response to the event which was attended by more than 150 people. The packed convention hall at the Lalit Ashok was testimony to the high interest levels in networking. Director, Karnataka Tourism, Mr. Viswanatha Reddy and Mr Vinay Luthra, MD, KSTDC were also present. Both of them expressed their delight over the gathering of the tourism fraternity and thanked KTF for providing an opportunity to bring everyone together. |
The evening started with the President of KTF, Mr Cherian Ramapuram officially welcoming the participants and sharing his learning on the present scenario based on his participation at the International Luxury Travel Mart, Cannes. One of the observations that stayed with all that evening was – “I am my biggest competitor”, meaning that we limit our abilities and imaginations and hence our businesses.
|
Harish Bijoor, the celebrated speaker took the stage next and led the audience through an informative half hour session on the topic ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’. Everyone seemed to be engrossed in the presentation which discussed the gloom of the present scenario and innovative means and marketing to meet the challenges. Whilst it was peppered with light humor and a light banter, the serious notes underneath were driven home. |
Mr Vinay Luthra shared his vision and immediate steps that will be taken up by KSTDC to enhance its services. The planning and investment for this facelift will give Karnataka a cohesive product covering all parts of the state for the budget segment travelers. Mr Luthra also spoke on the Golden Chariot Train - the luxury train and pride of Karnataka. |
Mr Viswanatha Reddy, spoke next. He conveyed that while the Department of Tourism will act as the facilitator, the entrepreneurs of the state should take the tourism to new heights. He promised all assistance and help to all investors and expressed his keenness to work with the stakeholders in the state. He highlighted projects such as the Heli-Tourism and the Golden Chariot which were the thrust areas in the state at this point. |
At this point it was obvious that the evening was proving to be a catalyst of sorts and there was an obvious need for the vision of KTF to be shared amongst all present. Mr Chidambara, Core committee member, KTF shared the Vision of KTF - To make Karnataka the No 1 Tourist Destination of India. He also shared the Mission and action plan of the forum through a 5-minute presentation. He explained how KTF proposes to improve the human resources quality, how it will be assisting the government on tourism policy framing, encouraging investment into the state and helping to promote the state at national and international travel marts. |
Ms Bharathi Shetty – Core committee member thanked everyone for their participation, The Golden Chariot and The Lalit Ashok Hotel for their sponsorships of the event and the chief guests for their attendance. Her vote of thanks in impeccable Kannada endeared her to one and all. |
Later, there were eager personal interactions amongst the fraternity over hi-tea. Many senior members of the trade were seen networking. There was participation from as far as homestays in Coorg, hotels in Hospet and the coastal areas. Mr Reddy & Mr Luthra stayed on right until the end and easily mixed with all together their ideas and listen to their inputs. This informal interaction session was truly the highpoint of the successful evening! |
