STRAIGHT DRIVE |
To bring greater professionalism to the important yet neglected sector of Taxi Drivers, KTF conducted a well structured training program for the tourist taxi drivers. The program co-supported by India Tourism, was attended by 52 drivers from different organizations. The Transport Commissioner inaugurated the program. Speakers from various sectors including Traffic Police and RTO officials delivered the lectures. Certificate of the participation was issued jointly by the KTF and India Tourism. |
FAM TOUR |
In order to improve awareness about the destinations and the infrastructure in the state, KTF conducted a FAM tour for tour operators. The three day tour covered Srirangapatna, Coorg, Hassan and Kudremukh. The Department of Tourism provided the KSTDC vehicle on a complimentary basis to support the tour. The tour was attended by 23 persons and was immensely successful. |
CAPACITY BUILDING |
India Tourism has pioneered Human Resource Development through capacity building programs for various skills in the Tourism Industry. We have been associated with India Tourism in all these exercises. KTF has contributed to this program not only by deputing staff for the programs but also in terms of providing faculty resources. The first program conducted for frontline staff of travel agents during March 2003, had 35 participants. Mr. Venkataraman, KTF, helped India Tourism as a Faculty Expert, and most of the participants were from our member organizations. KTF organized the first-ever program of capacity of building outside Bangalore during September 2003. The program was widely appreciated and extensively covered in the media.
KTF also associated with India Tourism in training auto-drivers of Bangalore.
Over 600 auto drivers were trained. |

VISION 2010 |
One of the major draw backs of Karnataka Tourism has been the lack of a clear roadmap for growth in tourism. There is no clear plan available to ensure systematic improvement in revenues of Tourism industry. Cognizant of this basic necessity, we involved the Commissioner of Tourism, Govt of Karnataka and his team, to brain-storm along with KTF members on Vision 2010 for Tourism. After long hours of discussion and systematic interpretation, we have prepared a ‘Vision 2010’ document with year-wise plans for tourism growth in Karnataka.
The document was presented to the Commissioner of Tourism for consideration. |
TREASURE HUNT |
In order to create awareness about tourist destinations and promote tourism,
KTF, successfully organized a Treasure Hunt for corporate executives in Bangalore. The colorful events had over 500 participants: Companies like IBM, Ad Gel, Volvo and others came in the costumes ranging from the Vijayanagara King Krishnadevaraya and Tipu Sultan to the Kodava traditional dress and the simple Gandhi cap and kurta of North Karnataka. The vehicles were also dressed up for prizes. While a Bajaj scooter was ingeniously turned into the King’s elephant, complete with flapping ears and solid tusks, an Esteem had two horses stuck
onto it, turning into a horse drawn chariot. Other vehicles had streamers and posters of the Mysore Palace, Shravanabelagola and other tourist sites of Karnataka stuck onto them to make it a visual treat. |
